NYPD's Auxiliary Police Section (APS) is the largest auxiliary police program in the United States. APS police is a volunteer part-time reserves of a regular police force. Formed in 1950, Headquarters in Kew Gardens, New York.  Auxiliary officers are trained to uniformed patrols, providing traffic control, crowd control, and other services during major events.
